Friends Of St Rufin’s is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, maintaining and sharing St Rufin’s Chapel, a small but historic building in the village of Burston, Staffordshire.
Place of worship
Worship has taken place in this building since 1859 and on or near this site since medieval times.
Pilgrimage
Part of the Two Saints Way, Pilgrims have visited this site since ancient times. Text from the 1600’s refer to being “much visited by devout pilgrims in former ages,
Community
Originally a School House, the building remains the only common building to the villagers of Burston. Most recently used for organising the village tea party.
History
The legend of Rufin dates back to the 7th century. Martyred by his pagan Father for converting to Christianity. A stone stated to be from a previous church, mentioned numerously in historic texts, is embedded in the front gable.
